Conveyor Belt

A conveyer belt acts as carrying medium of a belt conveyer system, which is also known as belt conveyer. It is available in a tensile strength of 1000N/mm to 5400N/mm with Max diameter of 4.1mm to 11.3mm and pitch of +1.5 to +17. The thickness varies from 4mm to 8mm whilst the width range from 500mm to 3200mm along with tolerance of +5 to +15.

Detailed Description for Conveyor Belt

A conveyor belt serves as a carriage in a belt conveyor system which is one of the many types of conveyor systems and consists of two or more pulleys with an endless loop of the carrying medium i.e., the conveyor belt. Primarily there are two industrial classes of conveyor rollers. Those in general material handling such as those moving boxes along inside a factory and bulk material handling like those used to transport large volumes of resources and agriculture materials.

Conveyors which are used in industrial settings, they include tripping mechanisms such as tripping cords along the length of the conveyor. This cord allows the workers to immediately shut down the conveyor when a problem arises. There are warning alarms included which notify the employees that a conveyor is about to turn on. In the US, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration have issued several rules for conveyor safety as OSHA 1926.555.

Applications of conveyor belt:

Belt conveyors are primarily applied to convey large amount of bulk or light weight material and also unit loads along a horizontal or vertical inclined paths. Such operations are performed in factory shed or outdoor work. Belt conveyors have significantly reduced the load of off the workers and have channelized it from being done physically to mechanically. These are brought in use for carrying the coal, ores and minerals in power plants, metallurgical process plants etc.

·         They are used for conveying building materials, grains, fossil minerals etc.

·         Used in wheel excavators.

·         Ice-cream plants.

·         Power plants.

·         Bakeries

·         Laundries.

·         Textiles.

·         Ceramic.

·         Ship yards.

·         Supply depots.

Advantages of conveyor belts:

These conveyor systems offer a lot of advantages to all walks of daily life. Some of its advantages are as follows-

a)      Noiseless operation

b)      Large length of conveying path

c)       Lower power consumption

d)      Long life

e)      Adaptability to different type of goods

f)       Ability to carry almost any bulk material

g)      High reliability of operation

h)      Can transport material in any direction

Limitation of conveyor belt rollers:

a)

  Accumulation difficult

b)      Complicated marshalling

c)       The loss of light-weighted bulk material getting carried away as dust or spilled from the belt along its path is another objectionable feature.

There are heat effects too which quite leaves impact on the material of the belt.
