Dibutyltin Diacetate

Dibutyltin dilaurate (DBTDL), also called Dibutyltin Diacetate is an organotin compound that is used as a catalyst. It is a colourless oily liquid and is 99% pure. In terms of its structure, this molecule consists of two laurate groups attached to a dibutyltin(IV) center. Its density is 1.32 and refractive index is 1.471. Its melting point is 7 to 10 degree C, boiling point is 145 degree C and flash point is 143 degree C. It is insoluble in water but soluble in most of the organic solvents.

Dibutyltin dilaurate (DBTDL) also called as Dibutyltin Diacetate is an organotin compound that is used as a catalyst. It is a colourless oily liquid. In terms of the structure, this molecule consists of two laurate groups attached to a dibutyltin(IV) center.

 

Its molecular geometry at tin is tetrahedral. On the basis crystal structure of the related bis(bromobenzoate), the carbonyl oxygen centres are weakly bonded to tin.

Uses:

Together with dibutyltin dioctanoate, DBTDL is mainly used as a catalyst for polyurethane fabrication from isocyanates and diols. It is used as a catalyst for transesterification and for the normal room temperature vulcanization of silicones. It is also used as a stabilizer in PVC.
