Flexo printing is also called as flexography. Flexography is a printing process which utilizes a flexible relief plate. It is used for printing almost any type of substances including metallic films, plastic, paper, and cellophane.

Process for Flexo printing include :

1)     plate making

2)     mounting

3)     printing

 

Types of flexographic printing :

It depends on the arrangement of the printing decks:

There are three different types,

1)Central impression:

here the decks are in order around a single, large diameter impression cylinder

2)Stack flexo presses:

here the decks are arranged one above the other

3)In-line flexo presses:

 here the print units are laid out horizontally in a line.

 In Modern flexographic press, each print unit comprises of Chambered doctor blade system, Anilox roller, Impression cylinder, Plate cylinder, and Inking system.

 

Application:

This is used in the manufacture of flexible aluminium packaging, labels, pre-print liners plastic, paper bags, shrink sleeves and heavy duty paper sacks.

 

Advantages:

1).It has most readily available inks which are water based and therefore easier to work with and faster to dry.

2).The manufacturing of flexo printing plates is relatively straightforward.

3).Its process is also easily adaptable to a wide range of substrates.
