HSS Drill Bits

HSS bits are tough and much more combatant to heat than high carbon steel. They can be used to drill metal, hardwood and most other types of materials at greater cutting speeds than carbon steel bits and have largely replaced carbon steels. The material used is chrome vanadium steel, virgin plastic and so on. Its frequency ranges from 50Hz, 55Hz, 60Hz and so on.

Detailed Description for HSS Drill Bits

Drill bits are cutting tools used to create holes in the material, which is always of circular-cross section. These bits are available in different sizes and shapes and depending upon the type of bit used to create a hole, the kind of hole differs. To create holes, the desired drill bit is attached to the drilling machine, which powers them to cut through the material. Normally, a hole is created by rotation of drill bit, which is powered by the machine.

Materials

Drill bits are made using different materials and depending upon the required application, material is chosen. Normally, the drill bits are made using hard materials such as carbide, which is better than steel and polycrystalline diamond, which is one of the hardest tool materials.

Soft low carbon steel is one of the most common materials used to manufacture drill bits. It is inexpensive compared to other bits. These steel bits are used only to drill wooden materials.

High carbon steel bits are more durable compared to soft low carbon steel. These bits are used to drill both wood and metal.

High Speed Steel, which is abbreviated as HSS, is hard and heat resistant. It can be used to drill many hard metals and wood at a greater speed.

Besides cobalt steel, Tungsten Carbide and Polycrystalline diamond is used to manufacture drill bits. These metals are extremely hard when compared to other materials.

Coatings

The drill bits are coated with

Titanium nitride

Titanium aluminum nitride
