Detailed Description for Centrifugal Blowers

The centrifugal blower uses kinetic energy of the impellers to increase the pressure of the gas or air. It increases the air speed radially that change the direction of air flow to 90 degrees. It is sturdy, reliable, quiet and capable enough to operate in different conditions. There are three types of fan drive that determines the impeller speed and the extent to which the fan speed can be diverged. The three types of drive mechanisms are direct, belt and variable.

In direct drive mechanism, the fan wheel is directly linked to the shaft of a motor, which means the fan speed is directly proportional to the electric motor’s rotational speed. However, in this drive mechanism, the speed of a fan cannot be adjusted unless the motor speed is regulated.

In belt drive mechanism, a set of shaves is affixed on motor shaft and fan wheel shaft so that the belt diffuses the mechanical energy to the fan. The fan speed is directly proportional to the ratio of the diameter of motor sheave to the ratio of the diameter of the fan wheel sheave. The belt drive mechanism is complicated and is less used in the industries. However, the air blower belt drive mechanism is highly durable, cheaper installation cost, requires minimum operating space and is highly resilient towards hostile atmosphere.

In variable drive mechanism, the fan use hydraulic or magnetic couplings. The fan wheel speed is controlled by automated systems. The fan can also be varied by using an electronic variable speed drive that controls the speed of a fan. It offers better energy efficiency when compared with mechanical couplings.
