KRAFT PAPER

Kraft paper or paperboard is a material manufactured using chemical pulp through the kraft process. Kraft pulp is darker than other wood pulps, but it can be bleached to make very white pulp. A completely faded kraft pulp is used to make better quality paper where strength, resistance to yellowing are important. The thickness of this paper varies between 0.045mm-0.05mm+ and is available is various dimensions. The color can however be customized.

Detailed Description for KRAFT PAPER

Manufacturing: Kraft Paper

The pulp manufactured in the kraft process gives the paper stronger characteristics in comparison with other pulping processes. Kraft pulping removes most of the lignin present originally in the wood. The hydrophobic characteristic of lignin obstructs the formation of the hydrogen bonds between cellulose (and hemicellulose) in the fibers. This results in low lignin content and the long fibers provides high strength and to further improve the strength wet strength chemicals are added. The paper is then microcrepped to add porosity and elasticity characteristics.

Types of Kraft Paper

1.    Normal kraft paper: This is a robust and moderately coarse kraft paper. It has high tensile strength. The Grammage is ranges from 40–135 g/m2.

2.    Sack kraft paper: This is a absorbent kraft paper with high pliability and high tear resistance, engineered purposefully for applications that requires high strength and durability.

3.    Absorbent kraft paper: This type is made with meticulous absorbency, i.e., with a tall degree of porosity. The pulp is  manufactured using clean kappa hardwood and this results in great uniformity and formation.

4.    Spinning kraft paper: This is a very strong type of kraft paper with comparatively low grammage (40 g/m2).The machine direction strength and cross machine elongation tests proved that this paper provided the best possible results and this is achieved by high fibre orientation on the papermachine

5.    Hunting cartridge paper: This is a kraft paper that needs a high tensile strength in the machine direction and is used in shotgun shells.

6.    Candy wrapping paper and twisting paper: These are thin kraft papers with grammage 30–40 g/m2 and are often offset printed. These papers entails a good tensile strength, with correctly oriented fibres. Twisting paper is commonly opaque and supercalendered.

Applications
1.    Kraft paper can be used in cement packaging and other product packaging industries that gives us an environmental friendly approach to packaging
2.    In large oil-filled transformers these can be used to provide electrical insulation.
3.    Kraft papers can also be used in multiwall sacks, paper grocery bags, envelopes and other packaging.
4.    A cost-effective approach could be to use this material for lining particle boards.
5.    The base paper used to manufacture sandpaper is kraft paper .
6.    It can be used as a wrapper for various products and also flower bouquets.
