Detailed Description for Centrifugal Pumps

Centrifugal pump is a hydraulic pump that uses impeller to move water or any other fluids. This pump converts the rotational kinetic energy to hydrodynamic energy to move or transport fluids. The rotational energy is created by a motor or engine installed in pump. This pump is widely used in water pumping, sewage pumping, petroleum and petrochemical pumping.

Centrifugal Pump Parts

The Centrifugal pump consists of a set of rotating vanes, which is also known as impellers that is enclosed in a casing. These impellers are used to convert kinetic energy to hydrodynamic energy through centrifugal force. This pump is made of two main parts which are impeller and shaft and a stationary element made of volute, stuffing box and bearings.

Operation

The centrifugal pump converts the mechanical energy into hydrodynamic energy as the impeller imparts the energy within the liquid. The fluid enters through a suction connection of the impeller that rotates in a high speed. Impeller consists of vanes that faced towards a radial direction. Hence, the fluid flow outwards through the vanes and exist the impeller at a high speed. The spiral casing, which is also known as volute collects the liquid exiting the impeller by converting the velocity head to the pressure head.
