 A hammer is a tool that delivers a sudden force to an object. Hammers are hand tools mostly used to fit parts, drive nails, forge metal, and for breaking the objects apart. Hammers are of different size, shape, and structure. This depends on their purposes. Hammers are fundamental tools in many trades.

The usual features are:

1) head:

which is often made of steel.

2)handle:

 which is made of fibreglass, steel or wood.

Most hammers are hand tools but there are also many powered versions called power hammers such as trip hammers and steam hammers for heavier uses like forging.

There are some other hammers also such as a mallet, sledgehammer, and gavel. The heavy engineer's hammer is used for driving heavy spikes or wedges easier than lighter carpenter's hammer.
