Detailed Description for Mechanical Piston Ring Tester

Piston Ring Tester is the inevitable Instrument for the Metrological Laboratories of eminent Automobile Manufacturers, Test Rigs and Inspection Departments of various vehicle testing and certifying Laboratories, Stage and final Inspection of Ring Manufacturers, Research and Development wings of all Diesel as welt as Petrol Engine manufacturers, Compressor manufacturers. Aeronautical Laboratories, Technical Institutes, Colleges etc.

This mechanical model of Piston Ring Tester is also useful for checking tangential tension of piston ring. The instrument is fitted with cantilever assembly. The dial indicator mounted on the top, measures the deflection of the cantilever beam, under tangential force. The piston ring is mounted on the ring table. It is held in the metallic belt and compressed by pulling the lever down, closing the gap in the two ends of the ring to a desired value. Thus the cantilever deflects. The deflection in the cantilever is measured in the dial indicator and the tangential tension is indicated on the Dial Gage.

This Tester is useful for checking the Tangential Tension of the Piston Ring, the Piston Ring is held along the circumference, by the Steel Belt tangentially at the gap. The tangential tension induced in the belt is carried over a cantilever spring. The Magnitude of deflection of this cantilever spring is indicated by the Dial Gauge, this deflection, multiplied by the spring constant gives the tangential tension of the Piston Ring.
